Coming off one of the more successful Blue Demon seasons in recent memories, what does Coach Jerry Wainwright in store for the 2007-08 season? While DePaul did lose its two leading scorer to the NBA, Wilson Chandler and Sammy Mejia, that doesn’t mean there isn’t some talent still around for Coach Wainwright to make use of. His team will feature 8 returning players including 4 seniors, giving the Blue Demons a solid level of experience.

DePaul will be led by guards Jabari Currie and Draelon Burns. Currie is the first Blue Demon since Rod Strickland to lead the team in assists his first two seasons while Burns is expected to provide a good portion of the scoring, especially from the perimeter. If DePaul can get some quality post play to match their guards, expect them to continue improving in the Win/Loss department.

Expect the Blue Demon low-post to be initially be manned by Karron Clarke, Wesley Green, and freshman Mac Koshwal. If any of these players don’t perform to expectations, there are some talented newcomers Coach Wainwright can turn to, including 6-10 JUCO transfer Matija Poscic and small forward Mario Stula, who has the reputation as a good shooter. The key to success in college basketball is improving on your last season. If DePaul can overcome the loss of Mejia and Chandler and the new players step-up as expected, the Blue Demons will be a tough match-up for their Big East foes.
