Keith Urban is an award winning country music artist. He began learning to play the guitar at the age of six and began winning talent shows by the age of eight. By the time he was 12 he was booking his band at local clubs and by 15 he had dropped out of school to pursue music full-time. Urban signed with EMA in Australia and recorded his first solo album which produced four number one hits in Australia. In 1992, Urban made the move to Nashville. He was a part of The Ranch which was a three-piece group that released an album in 1997, but he left the band to go solo.
In the late1990's Urban struggled with a cocaine addiction. He checked himself in to Cumberland Heights, a treatment center in Nashville, in 1998. After getting cleaned up he released his self-titled American debut album in 2000 which had three top five hits. He also won Top New Male Vocalist Award at the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards. In 2002, Urban released "Golden Road" and produced a great success with the single "Somebody Like You". This song spent eight weeks at the top of the charts. Three other singles were released and two of them went number one while the other was number three. The album went platinum in each country it was released in and went triple platinum in the United States. This is just another example of his successful career including touring with Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney.
"Be Here" was released in 2004 and it produced three number one singles, and two number two singles. In 2006, this album was certified triple platinum in the United States.
In June of 2006 Urban married actress Nicole Kidman at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in the grounds of St. Patrick's Estate, Manly, Sydney. Just two short months later, the single "Once in a Lifetime" from his 2006 album Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing made history debuting at #17 on the charts. The only country artists to come close prior to Urban was Garth Brooks and Eddie Rabbitt with singles debuting at #18.
In Fall of 2006 Keith Urban checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic. When he was released from rehab in January 2007, Urban announced his 2007 tour to support his Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing album.
In November 2007, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood announced a co-billed tour, the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride, for 2008. This will support Keith's latest release "Greatest Hits: 18 Kids" and Carrie's second released album "Carnival Ride."
